Bugs Frequently Found In Gardens
Pests are a big problem for most gardeners. Plants don’t stand a chance against some of those pests since they work too quickly. Though majority of garden pests can’t to major damage, it’s still annoying for gardeners to find within their crops.
We’re going to look at some of the most common vegetable garden pests, how to identify them, and how to get rid of them. Aphids are usually found in gardens. They are usually grouped together, identifiable by their soft bodies in different colours. Aphids may be coloured grey, pink, red, green, black, or yellow. To rid your garden of aphids, you can use neem oil or an insecticidal soap.
Beetles chew on your plant leaves. You should take action against garden pests since they can harm your garden. Beetles can be sprayed with an insecticide or you can just remove them by hand.
You’ll find borers in the stems of melons, pumpkins, cucumbers, and other plants. You’ll notice the leaves start to wilt, and you may find a hole in the stem where they bore into the plant. You have to cut the borers out of the plants. You have to get rid of the whole plant if borers infected the base. Insecticides can be used to prevent such a problem.
Grubs are white maggots. They can cause your plant growth to slow and seem unhealthy. Grubs can be controlled by treating the soil with milky spore. When the grubs turn into beetles, you can use stomach poison insecticide.
Pests that cut off plant stems are called cutworms. A paper collar placed an inch below and above the soil is the only effective way to prevent cutworms from harming your plant. These bugs usually infest cabbages, peppers, and tomatoes.
Corn earworms damage the corn kernels before the corn is harvested. The insides of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants are eaten by tomato fruitworms. Earworm insecticides should be sprayed regularly on your plants to prevent a repeat damage in the next season.
If you see slime trails on your plants, it means you’ve got slugs and snails in your garden. They cause the most damage to lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, and turnips. Bait for snails and slugs are available, but a low pan of beer works too.
Deformed leaf tips and white markings on leaves are indicative of thrips. They often plague beans, carrots, melons, and more. You get rid of thrips be hosing them off the plants and spraying with contact poison.
Tomato hornworms are frightening to look at. Tomato hornworms damage the leaves and fruits of plants like tomatoes and peppers. They are large, fat, green and white worms that look like caterpillars. They do have horns, though. To kill them, glove your hand and pick them off your plant then put them in a container of soapy water. Neem oil, stomach poison, and Bacillus thuringiensis work for them too.
