Choosing Great Super Bowl Food
With the Super Bowl just a few weeks away, have you decided what to serve the crowds of screaming football fans that will be invading your home? Do yourself a favor and keep it simple. No one will want to leave the game for a formal meal. Just give them snacks they can enjoy while they watch the game.
Set up a nice buffet table near the television so everyone can eat when they want. Use crock pots if you need to keep some dishes hot. Crock pots are great for chili, stew or pulled pork for sandwiches. Swedish meatballs are fun and easy to eat. Serve them with a box of toothpicks so your guests can serve themselves. Other simple hot dishes that you may want to make include spaghetti or lasagna. It is easy to prepare these foods ahead of time and cook them as needed. Set the pot or pan out on the table and let your guests dig in. Buffalo wings are always a popular snack and they are super simple to make ahead of time. Just reheat.
Serve plenty of chips and dip. Pour your favorite salsa over a block of cream cheese and set it out with some tortilla chips. Make deli sandwiches using French bread, baguettes or artisan loaves. Fill them with cold cuts and wrap them up for the fridge. Cut and serve whenever the table begins to look bare.
If you made that crock pot of chili or stew, serve it with hollowed out bread bowls. Your guests can eat the bowl as well as the main dish. Hot dogs or baked potatoes are easy. Cook a bunch and let your guests top them with their choice of condiments and toppings.
If you prefer to serve only appetizers, the world is your oyster. You can serve anything from simple cheese and crackers to beer puffs. What football fan would turn down beer puffs? Anything wrapped in bacon and stuck on a toothpick will be a hit. You can wrap shrimp, cheese or sausage bites with bacon. Everyone wants to snack on foods that taste great during the Super Bowl… not necessarily worry about what is good for them.
Be sure to stock plenty of beverages. Beer is a favorite for the Super Bowl. Keep plenty in an ice chest near the food. For those who prefer something non-alcoholic, stock some soda, water, or juice. Everyone will get thirsty from cheering their team on to victory.
Whatever Superbowl recipes you make for your party, be sure to prepare enough to keep everyone fed. Lay out your foods in shifts so there is always something for your guests to choose from. You do not want to be known as the host who ran out of food before halftime.
Keeping your guests fed while they enjoy the game will ensure you a successful Super Bowl party. You will even have time to enjoy the party yourself and watch the game!
