Growing Advice From A Thailand Flower & Orchid Expert

Growing an orchid is like taking care of a pet. You need to feed them properly, provide them good shelter and give them tremendous attention as well as tender love and good care. Any plant or flower needs attention, but orchids need the most.

Orchids are strikingly beautiful and a magnificent flower, with a wide range of varieties. And they are one of the most expensive flowers nowadays. They can grow either inside or outside of your house. Orchids are tropical flowers and they grow mostly in the jungles, therefore they need natural light but it is very important that its habitat is not too hot. Providing them a shelter that is located on the east side where the sun is rising will help them avoid sunburn and scorching. Orchids are quite sensitive so it is best for them to place them in indirect light or in a place that get the early morning sun. The afternoon sun is too hot and will cause them to get too dry.

Orchids that are potted must be carefully fitted in their pots so their roots can breathe freely. Some orchid growers put charcoals beneath and around the container because a charcoal helps in absorbing heat. The pots for potted orchids must have a small hole on each side for a proper drainage and for the air circulation as well. Drainage is important when watering an orchid to avoid drowning the roots. If the roots can’t get enough air eventually, the orchid will die. So proper drainage and holes are necessary for the container.

Just like humans, orchids can get dehydrated if not watered properly, particularly during summer. Orchid gets dry easily and their leaves become pale in color. So keep it watered and moist to hydrate it. Orchids do not need too much water for they will get damaged. Spraying an amount of water from a bottle regularly will keep them moist and hydrated.

Like in our home, pets. Especially dogs, are given vitamins so they can grow healthy and free from all kinds of sickness. Orchid growers use plant fertilizers for the orchids to bloom and medicinal plants to keep the orchids away from some plant’s diseases and pests. Elder people use traditional way to fertilize their orchids like putting empty eggshells on top of the orchid. The left over egg white believed to be the best fertilizer for orchids. Human urine is also considered as an organic fertilizer, others say that animal manures are rich in minerals that will make plant healthy and bloom.

You may forego of the mentioned fertilizers but the end result may not be as good.
