Have a Great Lawn and Save Water
With the hot summer months fast approaching it’s time to talk a little bit about water conservation. The fact is that you can still have a green lawn and not waste a ton of extra water. Too many of us waste extra water each summer, so let’s go over a few tips you can use to avoid this common problem.
#1 – Fix Broken Sprinkler Heads
While I’m sure the kids love it, those broken sprinkler heads that shoot 30 feet into the air are a huge water waster. As soon as you know you have a broken sprinkler get a replacement part and get it fixed. Thankfully they’re pretty cheap.
#2 – Water Your Lawn in the Morning
There is definitely an optimal time to water your lawn. That time is in the morning between the hours of 5 and 10 am. If you water your lawn in the afternoon you’re going to lose too much water to evaporation. If you water at night or in the evening your lawn will stay wet longer and you’ll have fungus problems. So it’s always best to water in the morning.
#3 – Water Infrequently
If you water too regularly your lawn with have a very shallow root system. If you actually let it go into drought mode a little bit now and then your lawn will grow deeper roots and be stronger for it.
#4 – Watch for Rain
How many times have you seen someone watering their lawn when it’s raining? Talk about wasting water! If it rains consider that your lawn watering for the week. Don’t worry about your regular schedule, just let the rain do what it’s going to do.
You really can have a nice looking lawn without using a ton of extra water. Use these tips and you’ll not only have a nice looking lawn; you’ll also save money doing it!
