How To Build A Mini Greenhouse

There are many things to consider in learning how to build a mini greenhouse. Personally, being a DIY person myself, I am most in favor of building a mini greenhouse rather than buying a ready made greenhouse kit.

First of all, when you buy a greenhouse kit, you still have to put in the time and effort to assemble it, right? Probably its a lot less time and effort, but the savings in cost can more than make up for the time I’ve expended in making a mini greenhouse.

Another thing is that building a mini greenhouse yourself, you have more flexibility. You can choose the materials you are going to use.

For example, when I built my mini greenhouse I had the choice of either using copper or PVC. In the end, I’ve opted for copper as it is more durable and it has more aesthetic value than PVC.

Another example is the materials you are going to use as cover. You can use something suitable for the need of the plants you plan on growing. Plastic is really good for heat retention thus, this is quite a good material in early spring and fall. Shade cloth are best used during summer as it has the ability to maintain cooler temperature.

With a ready made greenhouse kit, you don’t have this much of an option. You cannot customize it easily and you will have to settle for whatever materials, size and design of the ready made greenhouse kit.

And for me, I have issues with this as I specifically have a design which is also compatible with the space I have available. And I have some specific materials for the greenhouse that I want to use to create the environment that would foster growth for the kind of plants I have in mind.

Furthermore, learning how to build a mini greenhouse proved to be cheaper than buying those greenhouse kit. There are some scraps you have around the house that you can use to build a mini greenhouse. You only need to scour wherever you store your unused resources and you might be surprised to see there are some thing that you can use for the mini greenhouse.

What you’ll just be needing are some additional supplies and a greenhouse plan that you can easily follow. A very good greenhouse plan is something that takes into consideration both functionality as well as the aesthetics of the greenhouse. Functionality would be keeping in mind your needs as a grower. And of course, it wouldn’t hurt to have a greenhouse, however small, that you can show to your neighbors and friends.

In my case, I was able to utilize an old window to build a mini greenhouse. I was using a step-by-step guide on greenhouse building. It has some picture on it so the instruction are pretty easy to follow. You can check it out here:
