Hydroponics Information
Hydroponics is another way of gardening and of cultivating plants. Even after several years the pollutants that are found in soil in which we are exposed do not go away. Because plants are in mediums that can carry factors which can contribute to the ill health of people researchers have looked for ways to minimize plant exposure to these mediums. Through hydroponics soil is not used as a medium for planting.
Soil Is Not Important
In hydroponic gardening, researchers have found out that soil is actually just a reservoir where nutrients are stored for the plant’s consumption. The plants food is stored in the reservoir. Therefore, this reservoir is not essential if the plant can get the nutrients some other way. Hydroponics research has found out that the nutrients in the soil dissolve when they come in contact with water, thus making it easier for the plants to absorb. The need for soil for some plants is done away with in hydroponics.
Terrestrial plants, though usually found in soil, can actually survive without soil when they have access to the proper nutrients that are essential to their growth. Through Hydroponics some medium may be better to ensure a healthy life. These mediums include gravel, mineral wool, and perlite. The roots can hold on to these mediums for stability that is the resaon they are there.
In hydroponics the important factor is that the nutritional needs of a plant is filled by using the mineral solution. Almost all plants can grow without soil as long as the nutrient based solution is present. The solution is given to the plant in doses in order to meet the demands of the growing and thriving plant. Being exposed to water all the time is not tolerated by all plants so nutitional solutions
for hydroponic gardening are given in intervals.
Hydroponics has certain advantages such as cultivation in a clean environment with the fuss and mess of soil. Hydroponics has another advantage because it help eliminate many soil borne diseases that tranfer to produce and plants. For places that are barren such as the desert that have difficulty in cultivating plants hydroponics provides a solution. Greenhouses can be made to provide better crops that have nutrients provided to them directly without soil since most plants do not need soil to grow.
