Pots For Your Garden

Your container garden’s success may depend on your choice of containers for your different plants. If you choose the wrong size pot, it could seriously stunt the growth of the plant. What your container is made up of is important, too. Each material has its advantage.

Big containers made of wood are good for perennial plants and big bushes. Wood is especially attractive for use in growing plants that will continue growing for more than one season, and plants that you intend to grow outdoors in a conspicuous location.

Wooden containers are best for larger plants, and for use in highly visible areas of your yard. Wooden pots are generally one of the most expensive types of containers. They are worth their price because they can last a long time.

Be sure to get one that’s treated on the outside, but not on the inside. The ones that are treated inside might have chemicals that would leach into the soil and be absorbed by your plants. This is harmful to the plants, and if you eat your plants, you might be harmed too.

People with container gardens most often use plastic pots. The low price of plastic pots is the reason for this. But cheaper isn’t always better.

It’s a good choice if you will garden for only a limited time. But if you are planning to garden for more than a year, then maybe plastic pots aren’t such a hot idea.

There are some plastic pots that are thicker than the others, but then, they’re still plastic. Plastic tends to crack and deform when outdoors. And cracked pots are quite useless.

Clay pots are also cheap. They might cost you less, but they are very easily broken. They also won’t last in very low temperatures.

Ceramic pots are quite ideal. Most ceramic pots will last long. The inside of ceramic pots is untouched while the outside is given a shiny finish. Glaze leaching will not be a problem with ceramic pots.

You can also make your own containers by using things you find around the house. Most plastic containers will do, providing that you poke holes in their bottoms.

You can use the empty food and drink containers.

There are even those people who use bags of soil as containers. There are no strict container requirements. As long as they are safe and allow drainage, you can use any container.
