Putting Together A Bamboo Fountain

Having a bamboo fountain provides a certain magical appeal to your home garden.  These unique types of fountains were originally developed in Japan where they were used to chase deer away from the fields of rice paddies.  The name “deer chasers” was coined and is still used as another name for the bamboo fountain.

The bamboo fountain found a new use with the monks who used them to measure their meditation times.  Today, more people are interested in the bamboo fountain because it is made of eco-friendly material.  This fact does not detract from the fountain’s clear aesthetic charm.  The typical bamboo fountain can be used inside the home and out in the garden.

If you want to make a bamboo fountain, all you need are few simple pieces.  The parts for a bamboo fountain include bamboo, pipe, pump, base, screws, rod, and a container.  If you are constructing an outdoor bamboo fountain, it is a good idea to use a quality bamboo that will not crack under variable weather conditions.  People who opt to use the bamboo fountain indoors often enhance the strength and appearance of the bamboo by applying polish.  Other tools necessary to build your own bamboo fountain include a screwdriver, wood saw, and a drill machine.

When you ready to build your bamboo fountain, you must start by cutting bamboo sticks to the proper lengths.  There will be three bamboo sticks in the construction.  A stick will hold the nozzle while two other will hold the moving piece on the bamboo fountain.  The moving part of the fountain is the required in your bamboo fountain since it is responsible for collecting the water and emptying it as the weight of the collected water increases.  All three bamboo pieces will need to have holes drilled through the centers.  The holes are necessary because a rod will be inserted through the holes so the fountain will rock back and forth.

You will take the pipe and link it from your water pump and up the center of the bamboo stick.  The pipe will be capped by a nozzle made of bamboo.  The materials for your bamboo fountain, once put together, will be added to a base.  The bamboo fountain is in working order when it continues cycling water through the moving part, out of the spout and back in again.

If you’ve read this and realize you don’t want to build a bamboo fountain this way, you can always buy an easy-to-install kit at a home and garden center.

If you do get a bamboo fountain, you might like to know how to maintain one.  Any maintenance will concentrate in two places.  You will focus on the water pump care.  You need to have the water pump below the surface of your retaining pool when running.  Lastly, clean the pump regularly.  You must replace the water in your fountain on a regular schedule.  While you won’t have to change the water on a bamboo fountain that constantly operates, you still need to schedule a time so you’re not dealing with stinky water.
