Three Reasons To Plan Your Garden

Many different types of gardens can be built. Some people create back yard gardens, others build back yard gardens Gardens help people relax by helping them focus on simple tasks in a pleasant environment. Herb gardens provide edible alternatives to store-bought herbs.

Many options are available for building your garden. Container gardens can provide for plants to be grown year around. Container gardens make it easier to give your plants the correct amount of sunshine or shade. Raised bed gardens make it easy to create gardens in set, confined areas. Weeding is a part of gardening. It’s often easier to weed container gardens and raised bed gardens than in ground gardens.

With so many options available it is easy to gloss over the details and just dive in and start your garden. It is easy to get started with your garden Simply clear a plot of ground down to the dirt. Add topsoil as needed, rake, plant plants or seeds and water.

Spending time creating a garden plan usually gives the best results. A garden plan helps you figure out where everything you want to put in your garden is going to go. Figuring out how much mulch you will need is much easier if you have a plan.

Determining what plants you want to grow and their sunlight needs is critical. Planting corn or other tall plants between the sun and melons, radishes, squash, broccoli, cabbage or any other short plants will almost guarantee that you will have less than desirable results.

Different plants either help or hurt each other when grown nearby. Ones that help each other are companion plants. Bean plants provide nitrogen for corn while corn supplies support for the bean tendrils. Plants like spinach and potatoes should not be planted near one another. Using a garden layout will help you determine the best placement for complementary companion plants and how to keep the poor companions apart.

Germination schedules are different for each type of plant too. Mammoth sunflower, Kentucky wonder garden beans, baby’s leaf hybrid spinach and evergreen long white bunching onions all sprout within 7 to 14 days. If you have planted radishes in a vegetable garden, what will you want to plant when you harvest your first batch?

A garden design is ideal for getting started on following through on your garden. Next years planning will be quicker when you use the garden layout from the previous year to get started.  As soon as the threat of frost is gone you will be able to plant your garden.
