Using Up Leftovers From Your Garden

Growing your own fruits and vegetables is always a lot of fun to do. Sometimes however we can be surprised by having more fruits and vegetables than we anticipated. If you’ve got more green beans than you can eat, fortunately you don’t have to let them go to waste. There are many things you can do to use up your garden extras.

Give to Family and Friends. Your relatives will be delighted if you share the harvest of your garden with them. Giving fresh produce makes for a great gift idea for any occasion or no reason at all. No matter what you decide, they will likely be very appreciative of your gift.

Consider Freezing. It is easy to freeze fruits and vegetables, as long as you have the room in your freezer. Make sure you carefully get all of the air out of the bags to help it freeze better longer. When you are ready to eat your fruits or vegetables, all you will have to do is thaw them out.

Home Canning. You could also consider canning your food in jars. Canning tomatoes are a great way to use up the things from your garden. This can also be a lot of fun to do, especially if you get your friends and family involved in the action.

Dry it Out. You can make many great snacks with a dehydrator as well that will prevent it from spoiling. You can make potato chips or dried fruit that makes for great appetizers and snacks. You just might be surprised how handy a food dehydrator can be!

Make a Donation. You could also try giving it to a local food bank. While it will depend on what charities are available locally to you, there just may be one you can check into. This is a fantastic idea for helping others around you without letting your harvest go to waste.
