What You Should Know About Chandeliers
Chandeliers used to be a sign of a wealthy and high social status. These are usually found in elegant houses and expensive restaurants of the rich people. However, modern house designers are using chandeliers regardless the type of house. These are installed to add accent to any room, adding beauty and class. Any room with a chandelier is always noticed and appreciated.
Not all chandeliers are fancy and elegant. A wide collection of various chandeliers are now available in the market. There are several designs, colors and shapes as well. You can choose from crystal chandeliers, stained, stained glass, contemporary, teacup or even colonial chandelier available for you home. They are now appearing to any part of the room including dining room, living room, bedroom, kitchen and entryway. You can even put them in bathrooms. But before buying your own, you may want to consider these few factors to help you decide what chandelier is best for you.
These can be expensive but not matter what chandelier you choose, the first thing you have to consider is the place you will install it. It should compliment with the architectural design and theme of your house. It is practical to consider the architectural design of your house as well as the its ambiance and atmosphere because you do not expect to replace your chandelier every now and then.
The size of the room is a very critical factor. You do not want a very big chandelier hanging on your very small room. It will make the room look much smaller. Choose for the right size. A high ceiling requires a much bigger and wider chandelier compared to low ceilings. You can also have more layers with while with the low ceilings, 1 to 2 layers will do.
As a guide, you may take the measurement of your room and add them up to get the appropriate circumference of your chandelier. This rule is ideal for bedroom, bathrooms, living room, hall or entrance. If for example you have a 15 ft by 15 ft room, then your circumference should be about 30 inches. If your ceiling is high, you can add up to 6 inches more to its circumference. These should be hung at least 7 ft from the floor to avoid bumping your head into them.
For dining room, do not choose a chandelier that is wider than your dinner table. Select a chandelier that is half the size of your table. It should be hung at about 30 to 36 inches above the table for good illumination.
You have to consider your light requirements. Always take note of the recommended bulb wattage for them to have proper illumination. In general, a total wattage of 200-400 is sufficient enough to light up a room without blinding anyone. Also, there are dimmers in some models that enable you to adjust the amount of light.
Maintain your chandelier. It is not necessary that you clean it everyday. It is not practical also, getting into the ladders to clean it. It may be also a cause of accidents. It is sufficient that you clean it once or twice a year to keep it shiny and look new. When cleaning, make sure you have turned off the lights to prevent accidents.
